Week 4

Proverb: Payshent man ride danki

Translation: A patient man rides donkey.

Explanation: It is customary that travelers in a great hurry are loath to go via the slow but sure donkey. For them, a horse, used to galloping at terrific speeds for sustained periods seems a more logical choice. However, the donkey, although much slower, eventually gets to its journey’s end. Similarly, we must exercise great patience in order to reach our goals.

There are so many products on the market, what are your favorites for washing? What are your favorites for moisturizing/styling? What qualities does a product have to have in order to become one of your favorites?

For washing I use VO5 Milk Moisture. For moisturizing/styling I use Cantu Shea Butter and Eco Styler Gel. My hair products must be silicone free.

 2. Since using the castor oil, has your hair seen any of the benefits listed in the list above? Which ones?

Yes. I have been using castor oil for about 10 months and I have seen great results. My hair has grown and it is fuller, shinier and less dry.

 3. How did you use Castor Oil in your hair last week (week 3). Did you find yourself losing momentum or are you still going hard?

I applied castor oil to my scalp once and I did my edges about 2x. I do feel like I’m losing momentum with doing my edges. I keep forgetting to apply it at least 3x a week. :(

 4. (optional) Share a pic of your natural hair in one of your favorite styles!

Week 3

“One one coco full basket”

Roughly translated: “One by one, cocos (local staple comparable to yams) will eventually fill a basket”

Meaning: Success will come with slow and steady steps, so don’t expect greatness to happen overnight.

1. Since going natural have you ever felt really overwhelmed? If so, Why? If not, what have you done to make this journey run smoothly?

Yes. When I started in April 2013 I had a lot more time to do my hair and treat it with care. Now that I work full time I have a hard time finding time to care for my hair :(. I have tried low maintenance styles to help my journey run more smoothly.

 2. How often do you detangle your hair? What products and tools do you use? How long does it take? Do you finger detangle?

I detangle once a week. I use water and conditioner to detangle my hair. I use a comb and it usually take 30-40 minutes. I do not finger detangle. I used to finger detangle, but it didn’t work so well for my hair.

 3. How did you use Castor Oil in your hair last week (week 2). Did you use it any different than week 1? Do you see any change in your hair since using the castor oil?

I didn’t get to do my edges this week, but I did put castor oil on my scalp 1x. I have not seen any changes because I haven’t had a chance to apply it as often as I should.

1. Since going natural have you ever felt really overwhelmed? If so, Why? If not, what have you done to make this journey run smoothly?

Yes I have and sometimes still get overwhelmed, but I know nothing worth having is easy.  I have been doing more protective style that require little to no maintenance

 2. How often do you detangle your hair? What products and tools do you use? How long does it take? Do you finger detangle?

I detangle only when I wash, once a week or once every two week depending on the style I am wearing. I use water and conditioner and a comb to detangle my hair. I am not sure of the time but not very long. I finger detangle. (Depending on the style I was wearing)

 3. How did you use Castor Oil in your hair last week (week 2). Did you use it any different than week 1? Do you see any change in your hair since using the castor oil?

I apply it to my edges every morning and 2x to my scalp. I also used it as my sealing oil; I think the only change was that this oil JBCO was too heavy to use as sealing oil or maybe I used too much.

Winter Castor Oil Challenge

The goal of this challenge is to grow our hair thick, long and healthy over a 3 month period. This challenge is our way of motivating one another to partake in a routine healthy hair regimen using castor oil, However do keep in mind like they say in Jamaica “Puss an’ Dog noh have di same luck!” What will work for some folks, don’t for some.  Don’t be discouraged by things you see or hear growing your hair to longer lengths requires patience, consistent effort, time, and consideration. While the journey to natural hair is a complex one, the journey to longer length hair is complex as well. You will learn a lot along the way, let’s enjoy the journey.

mynombreislayla said: Hey ! I have a question , like if I use the castor oil on my scalp daily , I need to wash my hair how often ? Thanks and love this blog!

Cameil: I would recommend washing your hair at least once per week (that’s what I do). In my opinion, Apple Cider Vinegar(ACV) rinses helps too.

Saenya: I usually cowash my hair once a week and I shampoo once a month.

We hope this was helpful! Thanks for visiting our blog!
